Sydney doesn’t get harsh winters, but every season still leaves its mark on a home. Here’s a realistic seasonal rhythm that keeps things fresh year-round without marathon cleaning days.
Summer (Dec–Feb)
Humidity season. Watch for mould in bathrooms and wardrobes — run exhaust fans longer and leave wardrobe doors ajar on sticky weeks. Flyscreens collect dust and pollen; hose them down monthly. If you’re entertaining, the BBQ deserves a proper degrease before and after the season.
Autumn (Mar–May)
Gutter season. Leaves block drainage right before the winter rains — clear gutters and downpipes by May. Inside, it’s the ideal time for carpet steam cleaning: windows can stay open for fast drying.
Winter (Jun–Aug)
Condensation season. Wipe window frames and sills weekly to stop mould taking hold, and air the house on sunny days. With windows closed more, indoor dust builds faster — vacuum more frequently, and check ceiling fan blades before summer use.
Spring (Sep–Nov)
The classic deep clean: windows inside and out, curtains and blinds, oven, pressure-wash the driveway and outdoor areas, and declutter room by room. One weekend of spring cleaning makes the whole year’s maintenance easier.
The shortcut
A seasonal deep clean every three months, with light weekly upkeep in between, beats one heroic annual effort every time.
